COURSE DETAILS
Unit 1: Digital Literacy
This Unit will introduce students to terminology used with Information and Communication Technology. The will learn the components of a personal computer. They will learn about electronic, files, folders and signatures. We will explore various ways connecting to the internet from ISP and Browsers. Learn how to research effectively using electronic tools
Unit 2: Productivity
Students will start using productivity software. We will look at various offering like Open Office, Pages, Google Docs. For the most part student will familiarize themselves wit MS Office. The main programs that will be taught is MS Word, MS Access and MS Excel. They will learn to use MS word as a Word Processor, Excel for spreadsheets to perform variety of tasks and MS Access to manage data into a database.
Unit 3: Design
Students will learn how to present in class. Students will create PowerPoint presentation and learn how to present effectively. They will be working with graphical software like MS Paint (or others) in conjunction with MS Publisher to create various publications (posters, brochures etc..) And lastly, they will be introduced to programming. They will learn HTML and create their own webpages. They will also analyze other pages to help them understand usability of sites and their effectiveness.
Unit 4: Communication
This unit will focus on understanding the characteristics of effective business document and communication. Student will be tasked to create similar documents. The will be introduced to email and other communication technologies including social media.
Unit 5: Ethics
Students will explore the legal, ethical and social ramifications relating to information and communication technology (including social media). We will look into right of users, companies and governments relating to information and communication technology. We will assess the impact it has on individual and communities as a whole.
